A strong earthquake - measuring between 6.9 and 7.9 on the Richter scale hit Southern Peru this morning. Initial reports state that at least 47 people have been killed and many hundreds injured. The number of casualties is expected to rise as contact is made with more rural areas. The earthquake was also felt in Chile and Bolivia with 30 people reported injured in northern Chile.All locators and Locators Online staff in Peru, Chile and Bolivia please be prepared to receive location requests. Communications and power systems are down in many areas of Southern Peru which increases the likelihood that the assistance of Locators Online will be required by the family and friends of those missing.
