Online Volunteering Assignments
Dear Locators,

Today we are finally sending out our online volunteering assignments. We are a few days late due to our relief efforts in Peru.

Positions and their respective assignments are as below:

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT
=====================

* Online Education Projects: Volunteers are to draw up plans for online projects dealing with the following themes. Our aims are to promote action in these fields and volunteerism; while also promoting the presence of Locators Online:
- Preparing for Natural Disasters
- Why volunteer?
- Coping with refugees

Other original ideas and themes will also be accepted. Projects should target students in primary and secondary schools. Draft proposals and ideas must be submitted by 30th July 2001. We will set a date for receipt of a final proposal, once all drafts have been reviewed.


PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
========================

* "Are we getting the message through?" Volunteers are requested to visit our web site at http://www.locators-online.org and answer the following questions:
- Is the Locators Online web-site easy to understand?
- Do first time users come away from the site understanding who we are and what we do?
- What is the general access speed of the web-site from your location?
- Do the "eLocate" and "Join Us" pages offer enough explanations?
- How can we better the Locators Online web-site?
- Are we getting the message through?

Other ideas and opinions will be appreciated. Please submit your initial reports by 30th July 2001. Further questions will be put to you after receipt of your initial reports.


RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
===================================

* Research and submit reports on the following:
- Local and international family linking organisations. Contact information and brief summary of aims.
- International disaster relief organisations. Contact information and summary of aims. Importance should be initially given to small local organisations.
- "Are you prepared for a disaster?" A list and summary of web sites that can be used as references for preparing a disaster preparedness section on the Locators Online web-site.
- First Aid: List and summary of web sites to be used as reference in the preparation of the First Aid section of the Locators Online web site.

Draft reports must be submitted by 4th August 2001.


PROMOTIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
=========================================

* Volunteers are requested to form a database of local and international press, including;
- Address
- Telephone and Fax numbers
- URL (Web address)
- Name of contact in organisation (if any)

Initial databases must be submitted by 4th August 2001.


LOCATOR
=========

Locators will be called into action when a disaster occurs in your region. Please visit our web-site for more information or drop us an e-mail with your questions.


TECHNICAL ASISTANT
===================

You will be called on when a technical problem arises in the hardware and software that keeps Locators Online alive.


Please submit all documents via e-mail members@locators-online.org in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel; Notepad or WordPad formats (supported extensions: .txt .doc .xls) If you require more time to complete assignments or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. These projects are open to all our members, and you can take part in any assignment.
