NetAid.org Partnership Update

Dear Locators,

First of all, I would like to welcome all of our new volunteers to Locators Online. Since becoming an official United Nations / NetAid.org Partner Organisation, the number of volunteers we have has more than doubled.

Netaid.org is a partnership model founded by UNDP and Cisco Systems. Netaid.org uses the Internet to empower people to take action on extreme poverty around the world. The organisation is a hub of many online activities generating positive impact in ending poverty. Netaid.org offers its activities through a dynamic platform of "eAction." The site has a special "Online Volunteering" section - a joint project between NetAid.org and the United Nations Volunteer Programme (UNV). Now with spare time, the desire to help and access to a computer and the Internet, people all around the world can volunteer for organisations around the world, doing something about the issues they care about and sharing their skills with those in need around the world.

Again a very warm welcome to all our new volunteers, we will be putting your skills to good use very soon.

As you are probably aware, 2001 is the International Year of Volunteers. With the support of the United Nations Volunteers Programme and Benetton, COLORS Magazine is going to publish an issue devoted to the theme of volunteers.

COLORS is a bimonthly magazine about the rest of the world. Sold in more than 80 countries (more than 500,000 copies), published in eight editions and printed in nine languages (English paired with Italian, French, German, Spanish, Croatian, Hungarian, Swedish, or Polish), COLORS is an international magazine that celebrates diversity by exploring different cultures. Further to volunteer profiles COLORS is creating a world guide that lists global voluntary organizations, contact references and volunteer opportunities.

As a voluntary organisation, Locators Online will also be included in the above mentioned guide, and COLORS has requested that I pass on a few questions to you - our volunteers - to answer. We will be very happy to receive the answers to these questions from you all, it will not only help COLORS prepare their magazine, but it will also help us gather valuable feedback from you all. Your answers may be partly or fully published in the volunteer themed issue of COLORS Magazine.

I look forward to receiving your replies. Please e-mail them to david@locators-online.org

Thanking you all again for your support,

David T. Thomas
